Applied Mech. News 1994-95

The Department is helping the Local industries, Govt. Departments, private contractors and other Agencies by offering testing and consultancy services for Buildings, water-retaining structures, public buildings like shopping complex, school buildings etc.

The Department has also been testing for Bureau of Indian Standards. The design of four-lane Bridge near Shiroli Octrio Naka, Kolhapur for Kolhapur Municipal Corporation is submitted to the Corporation. About ten students have completed their M.E.Dissertation work and have been awarded the M.E. degree under the guidance of Dr. K.T.Krishnaswamy, Prof. S.V.Gharpure, Dr. A.B.Kulkami and Dr. M.R.Shiyekar. The students have done the work in the field of Structural Engg.

The Department has purchased 'Imported Ultrasonic Concrete Tester and Concrete Hammer.' They are useful for non-destructive tests of concrete. Local industries and Govt. Departments are taking advantage of this facility.
 
Shri P.K.Patwardhan Technical Assistant, and Shri Y. R. Mane Chargeman of the Department have retired on 30-9-94 and 31-12-94 respectively.
 
POLYTECHNIC WING
Under the World -Bank Assistance for strengthening Technical education, the Dept. has purchased (a) Motorised Sieve-Shakeer, (b) Portable Ultrasonic Non-destructive Digital Indicator cum tester for concrete tester and (c) Concrete Test Hammer with print out facility.

Shri S.M.Kulkarni, H.O.D. (Poly. Wing) gave the following lectures as Guest Faculty at Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engg: Shegaon, in a Training Programme as Institutional Management sponsorred by 1STE under Canada-India Institutional co-operation Project during 7th and 9th of October 1994.
1) Institutional Management - a TQM Approach and
2) Team Building and Group Dynamics.
Shri S.M.Chivate Lecturer in Applied Mechanics (P.W.) is selected by the MPSC for Class - II position in the department of P.W.D. We wish him all the success.
