Applied Mech News 1990-91

The Department has received grants from the Govt. of India for the modernisation of laboratories. From this grant FFT Analyser for dynamic testing of prototype structures has been purchased. The purchase of non-destructive testing equipments like concrete test hammer, Ultrasonic Concrete tester for determining the quality of concrete in the actual structure is in progress.
 
TESTING AND CONSULTANCY :
The department is helping the local industries, Contractors, PWD, Environmental Engg. Dept. and others for the testing of the various building material and is offering consultancy services in the design and investigation of RCC E.S.R.s, jack-wells etc.

M.E. DISSERTATIONS :
During the year about ten students completed their M. E. Disserations and they have been awarded -the degree by the Shivaji University. The major topics for these dissertations are in the field of ferro-cement, finite element techniques for the design of structures, limit state analysis of buildings, economic design of RCC E.S.R.


POLYTECHNIC WING
• Shri. S. M. Kulkarni attended Winter School in Script Writing for Educational Video Film Production in Engineering ' at 'TTTI, Bhopal during 7th and 12th of January 1991.
• Shri. S. M. Kulkarni delivered a talk on All India Radio, Sangli, on `Vaidnyanik Kranti and Gramin Vikas'. The talk was arranged on the eve of Engineers' Day Celebrations (13-3-90). The talk was broadcast twice.
* The Department has received DCA grant of Rs. 75000/- for equipments and Rs. 19268/-for Library. The funds are being properly utilized.
Sarvashree S. M. Kulkarni, S. A. Anglekar and C. S. Kotibhaskar have worked for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the World Bank Assistance Project.
* Summer school is sanctioned by I.S.T.E. on Advanced Methods of Cement Concrete Testing ' Shri. S. M. Kulkarni is the co-ordinator.
