I am happy to place on record, a general report on the working of the College for the period January, 1972 to December, 1972.
(1) Development Schemes : Out of the total sanctioned amount of Rs. 11,23,800/- of buildings under the additional intake scheme, an amount of Rs. 10,77,500/- was utilised by us for buildings. All the construction work sanctioned under this scheme, except the extension to work-shops, has been fully completed. The work of construction of extension to work-shops is in hand and is expected to be completed by March, 1973.
(2) Under the scheme of additional in-take, a sum of Rs. 5,66,400/- was sanctioned for the additional furniture and equipment. We have fully utilised this amount.
The work of construction of building to accommodate Canteen, Co-operative Stores, Dispensary, Students' Recreation Room etc. has been fully completed and the building was formally inaugurated at the hands of Mr. S. S. Saxena, Collector of Sangli District, on 16-3-72, The total expenditure on this students, amenities centre stands at Rs. 1,44,200/-
The State and Central Governments have accepted our proposals for provision of additional physical facilities incidental to the conversion of the 3-year degree course into 4-year ones. The sanctioned scheme is styled " Development Phase IV " under this scheme. An amount of 6,01,700/-was sanctioned for additional buildings: and a sum of Rs. 5,73,700/- was sanctioned for equipment, furniture aid library books: As against these, we have so far spent a sums of Rs. 4,58,000j- on buildngs. The buildings under this scheme are the eastward and westward extension to the main administrative block. This building will house additional library facilities, drawing halls, the high voltage laboratory, the chemistry and engineering chemistry laboratories.
Although the work of construction had originally progressed very satisfactorily, the completion of the work within the prescribed time limit has not been possible because of non-availability of steel. It is expected that these difficulties would be removed very soon and construction work will be fully completed latest by September, 1973.
On furniture and equipment we have so far spent Rs. 3,70,000/- Thus the progr-ess can be generally classed as satisfactory.
Development of hostel facilities
The Central Government have approved provision of additional facilities for the residence of the students on the campus for 90 students. The Central Government have already sanctioned loan of Rs. 3,69400/- for this purpose. However, as during the time gap between the submission of our proposal and sanction thereto by the Central Government, the rates of construction have considerably gone up, we have requested the Central Government to revise their sanction. The actual construction work will be started after the receipt of the revised sanction.
Construction Staff Quarters :
The Kasturbai Scindiya Commission Trust, Bombay has very Kindly sanctioned us a long term loan of Rs. 1,75,000,'- bearing a nominal interest. With the help of this financial assistance we had taken in hand construction of five buildings to house the quarters for the staff members. I am happy to report that the quarters have been fully completed and have also been occupied. The expenditure no far incurred for the construction stands at Rs. 1,34,896/- The additional expenditure, that will incure over and above the amount sanctioned by the Kasturbai Scindiya Commission Trust will be met from the Hostel and Staff Quarters Fund of the College.
Results :- The results of the various examinations conducted in March / April, 1972 and in October, 1972 were satisfactory.
Research Projects :- The work on the various Research Projects undertaken. by cur staff members was continued to be carried out. No new schemes have been sanctioned during the last year.
The schemes are being financed by the University Grants Commission, the Shivaji University, and the Shetakari Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana, Sangli.

Shri K. V. Gokhale Asstt. Lecturer the College left for better prospects, on 25-11-1972
Shri M. R. Deodhar, Electrical Engineering Deptt. and Shri. N. K. Sane from the Mechanical Engineering Deptt. have been sanctioned study leave for doctoral studies.
During this year, Prof. B. Subbarao has also obtained registration for the Ph. D. in Public Health Engineering at the Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
Prof. R. N. Aranake has been registered for the Ph. D. Degree in Mathematics at the Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Prof. P. A. Kulkarni was selected under the Quality Improvement Programme for doctoral studies and is at present carrying out his work at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
Four of our Junior staff members have registered for Master's Degree in Engineering.
I am sorry to report that one of our Senior staff members-Prof. R. T. Ranade expired on 13-10-1972 of Cerebral Haemorrhage. In his passing away, the department as well as the college have suffered an irreparable loss.
Scarcity relief fund : The Staff Members of the College have decided to contribute an amount equal to their basic salary for two days to the relief funds. This amounts to Rs. 5,320/-and you will be glad to know that out of this, an amount of Rs. 2,260/-has already been sent as our contribution to the Chief Minister's Fund. An equal amount has been sent to the District Famine Relief Fund.
The students of this College have also risen to the occasion and have contributed an amount of Rs. 1,000/- out of the savings from their Gymkhana Funds. This amount also has been already sent to the authorities concerned as contribution to the Chief Minister's Fund.
In addition to these contributions, the College has raised a Principal's Fund to help the students of this College who come from the famine strikes areas of the State. The College has, from its own funds, contributed Rs. 15,000/- to the Principal's Fund. The students of the College have decided to contribute to the Principal's Fund a suns of Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli.
Rs. 3,000/- out of the savings on their extra-curricular activities.
The students of our College conducted a Fun Fair at the College, organizing a Students' Day. The collection made on this occasion (after meeting the expenditure) has been contributed by the students to the Principal's Fund. This collection amounts to Rs. 700/-
The College has already started the work of providing relief to the needy students under the famine stricken category. The Students Aid Fund amount for the-current year is also being utilised for this purpose.
The students coming from the famine stricken areas have been advanced funds to meet their Mess Bills, Room Rent, other miscellaneous expenditure of esst ntial nature and for the purchase of books. This amounts to Rs. 17,887/-
