Maths,Physics and other Depts news 1991-92

MATHEMATICS
1. Dr. R. N. Aranke, Head of Dept. retired on 31-12-1991. We wish him long and happy future life.
2. Dr. K. V. Virkar took the charge of Head of Dept. from 1-1-1992.
3. Shri. S. B. Joshl Lecturer in Mathematics attended Second International Conference on 'Industrial and Applied Mathematics' at Washington D.C. (USA) during July 8-12. 1991 and presented a research paper " On a sub-family of Normalised Univalent Funcions, to attend conference he has got fellowship from SIAM - Philadelhia USA.
4. Dr. B. B. Walawadkar and Shrl. S. B. Joshi attended Shivaji University Mathematical society's Conference at Willingdon College, Sangli during November 1991.

CHEMISTRY
Two articles were published by Shri.A.M.Karmarkar in Vidnyanyug (Marathi Magazine) in April and July 91 respectively on (1) (2) chici-i=11 A
Shrl.A.M.Karmarkar & Shri. V. M. Kadam have guided few students of B.E. class in the preparation of Seminar, lectures and projects.
Shri. A. M. Karmarkar has taught chemistry to AMIE students. Shri.A.M.Karmarkar delivered a lecture to participants of ISTE Summer School on "Modern methods in Cement Concrete Testing" on the topic "Chemical Analysis of Cement". He also conducted laboratory work for the above subject. Shrl.A. M. Karmarkar has worked as Judge for Science Quiz Organised by Rotaract Club of Sangli "Rainbow 91".
Testing activities were carried out in department of chemistry as usual.

PHYSICS
Dr. L. N. Sathe & Dr. S. V. Mahadane attended 4 week winter school on 'Computer Applications' at College of Engg. Pune from 16th Dec.91 to 11th Jan.91. Shri. N. S. Joshi, Asst. Lecturer, Polytechnic Wing retired from the services of the College on 30th Nov.91.
Shrl.D. B. Tavare, M.Sc. has been appointed on clockhour basis in the Polytechnic Wing up t.) 10th April 92.
Day to day working in the department is going on smoothly.

GEOLOGY
Shri. S. G. Ranade attended a summer school on Mining and Processing of Dimensional Stone from 5th to 11th August 91, conducted at Jodhpur by Department of Mining Engineering of Jodhpur University. He also attended a Winter School on 'Training of Trainers' in induction Training for new teachers conducted by Shri. Jayachamrajendra College of Engineering, Mysore from 16th to 28th Sept. 1991.
Shri. S. G. Ranade, rendered the consultancy services to the following parities.

2. Shri. S. S. Naik, Market Committee Housing Society, Sangli.
3. Deputy Engineer Public Works Dept. jayasingpur.

ENGLISH
Mrs. M. R. Path joined as a lecturer on degree side on 16th July, 1990. Linguaphone Casets on various Topics were purchased.

LIBRARY
The Library at present holds a total collection of 33500 Books and 8400 bound volumes of various Technical Magazines accumulated over the last 46 years. Six book Bank Schemes including Social Welfare Book Bank Scheme in the Library are in operation. This year the following Societies Donated the amount shown against their name for subscription to Technical Magazine and purchase of books. 1. Seth Gulabchand Research foundation : Rs. 18,000/-2. Rachana Mahila Mandel, Sangli.: Rs. 800/-
