Electronics Dept news 1983-84

At the end of academic year 1)83-84 addition to the present HCL 18u0 mini aputer system, the College will be enriched in its computer facility by the purchase a new computer system -

PSI Data System's Omni Model 

under the Scheme if " Direct Central Assistance " to technnical institutes of Govt. of India. The new system costs over 6.5 lakhs and its important features are : Memory capacity - 256 k-bytes with one main console and three additional video terminals, a 300 lines per minute printer, 70 Megabytes hard disc drive and two floppy drives of 1 Megabytes capacity each. It can support four languages namely - FORTRAN,BASIC, COBOL and PASCAL, besides Assembly Level Language-
The facility is expected to be installed by July 1984.


In continuation to last year's activity, the courses in 'Programming in BASIC' are being run at full capacity. In all 120 students from various fields were trained during 1983-84. The activity will be continued during next year.


Mr. V. D. Kulkarni, a final year B. E. (Elec-Electronics stream ) student won the first prize from the Institute of Engineers India, Banglore Centre, for his paper on ' Computer Aided Manufacture". He was guided by Prof. N. R. Phadnis.

Prof.H.K. Abhyankar coordinated ISTE Summer School on 'Human Behaviour at Work' in June, 1983, jointly with Prof M. V. Joglekar. 24 participants from various educational Institutes and indus-tries attended the summer school.

Prof. P J. Kulkarni attended a three week course on 'Micro processors and its application' in Aug. 1983, at University of Cochin under UGC Scheme.
Out of the 32 students of the final year DIE students, who passed out in June 1983, 19 students joined Degree Courses in Electronics and Instrumentation
