Mech Dept News 1997-98
■ Prof. Dr. N. K. Sane took charge as head of the department on 1st Sept. 1997. The department conducted a 4 week AICTE-ISTE summer schoolon "Computer Applications in Mechanical Engineering" between 16/6/1997 to 11/7/1997. About 40 participants attended the school from all over India. Prof. Dr. N. K. Sane and Prof. S. P. Chavan worked as co-ordinators of the summer school.
A two day National symposium on "Future Trends in refrigeration Technology" was orginised by the department on 24th and 25th Jan., 1998. Prof. Dr. N. K. Sane worked as conveynor of the symposium and Prof. V. M. Diwan was chief co-ordinator. About 100 delegrates from various Industries and institutes attended the sympossium. Eminent personages from industry and institutes delivered the lecturers, and 17 participants presented their papers at the poster session.

1. A paper entitled 'Natural Convection Heat Transfer from Vertical Base Arrays with vertical fins of different shapes" submitted by Dr. Miss. A. N. Tikekar and Prof. Dr. N. K. Sane is accepted for the 11th International Heat Transfer Conference to be held at Kyongju, Korea, in August, 1998. 2. A paper entitled "Stress Analysis of I. C. Engine piston using Finite Element Method" by Shri. V. B. Bhalvankar and Shri. G. D. Bhide was accepted and published in Eight th National Congerance on Machines and Mechanisms (NACOMM 97), held on 12-13 Dec. 1997 at IIT Kanpur. 3. A paper Entitled "Computer Aideded process Planning for Lathes" by Shri. M. Y. Khire, Shri. V. B. Bhalvankar and Prof. A. V Deshingkar was accepted and published in first National Conferance on Intelligent Manufacturing Systems at Coimbatore Tech. Institute - Feb.6/8/98.
4. Shri. P. G. Ramdasi has attended -National Conference on "Changing Role of Industrial Engineering" on 6 7th Feb., 1998 held at V.I.T. Pune. 5. Vice Principal (PW) Prof. S. G. Kanitkar has deputed Mr. V. K. Joshi to attend 4 days Interstate Workshop Orginised by T T T I Bhopal on 16 - 20th Dec., 1997, on L R D C - L R U Cs a scheme under World Bank project for Upgrading Technical Education.
ACHIEVEMENT OF PERSONS :
1. Dr. Miss A. N. Tikekar received Ph. D. Degree of Shivaji University in Mech. Engg. for her Thesis entitled "Comprehenssive Studies on Natural Convection Heat Transfer from Vertical Fin Arrays" under the guidance of Prof. Dr. N. K. Sane. She is the first woman Ph.D. in Engg. Faculty & first Ph.D. in Mechanical Engg. in Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
2. Mr. V. K. joshi has designed a memento for Golden Jubilee functions and manufactured about 100 nos. in our Mech. Engg. Deptt. wit hthe help of supporting staff Mr. G. A. Sutar, Mr. B. J. Mohite, Mr. H. V. Khandare, Mr. S. N. Patil, Mr. P. M. Desai, Mr. G. S. Shinde, Mr. V. Y. Jadhav, Mr.• M. J. Samudre and Mr. Sanjay Sutar under kind guidance of Prof. Dr. N. K. Sane.
3. Mr. V. K. Joshi has designed erected and successfully operated a mechanism for precious advertisement displayed on side screens during Double Wicket Cricket Tournament held on 20th Oct. 1997, a part of Golden Jubilee functions Mr. P. M. Desai, B. J. Mohite, S. N. Patil helped Mr. V. K. Joshi in this work.
4.. The Work of repairs of. old Blackstone England make 125 HP Crudeoil Engine coupled to generator set, which was not functioning from last 5 years has been successfully carried out under close supervission of Prof. Dr. N. K. Sane Head Mech. Engg. Dept and Mr. V. K. Joshi in June 1997.
5. 11 Nos. of Heat Transfer Laboratory models have been developed in P & T Section of Mech. Engg. Dept. and supplied to Sinhagad college of Engg. Pune in Oct. 1997. All models have been designed by Prof. Dr. N. K. Sane Head Mech. Engg. Dept. and manufactured under supervision of Mr. V. K. Joshi.
6. Mr. V. K. Joshi has prepared a teachers manual for F. Y. Diploma Work shop Practice Work-Book (part LRDC Work) and was implimented in this year for Field-Test. TESTING AND CONSULTANCY WORK :
The department is engaged in the usual testing activities such as pressure gauges, pumps and other instruments. Prof. M. G. Bhat and Prof. S. P. Chavan are carring out the consultancy work in the field of noise and vibration control. They are active ingiving consultation to various sugar factories in the state.
