Mech Dept News 1996-97

Prof. Dr. S. G. Joshi has taken over as Head of the Department from July 1996.
Prof. Dr. S. G. Joshi was awaded " Best Teacher Award " by Government of Maharashtra in 1996 and he was invited to receive the award at a state level function on 5th Sept. 1996 at Pune.

Prof. S. G. Kanitkar presently working as H.O.D. Mech. Engg. (Polytechnic Wing) has taken over as Vice Principal (Poly-technic Wing) from March 1997.
Shri. S. G. Inamdar presently working as Lecturer in Mech. Engg. (Polytechnic Wing) has taken over as H.O.D. Mech. Engg. (Polytechnic Wing) from March 1997.

Prof. G. D. Bhide was appointed as Assistant Professor of Mech. Engg. (P.G.) from 16/1/1997 to 30/4/1997, A grant of Rs. 7.5 lajhs was sanctioned by All India Council for Technical Education for modernisation of I.C. Engine Laboratory during previous year.

During this year, a computerized diesel engine test ring was purchased and commissioned. Utilization of remaining grant is in progress. The work of utilization of Direct Central Assistance of Rs. 10 lakhs sanctioned for Machine Dynamics Laboratory is completed.

A separate P.C. Laboratory started functioning in the department during previous year, with total 9 no. of P.C. During this year 6 pentiums have been added.

EVENTS :
The department has organised a two days National Workshop on " Industrial Problems in Machines and Mechanisms (IPROMM - 97) on 15th and 16th March 1997; in association with Association of Machines and Mechanisms, Chennai.

A) Conferences Attended / Papers Published :
1) Shri. V. B. Bhalvankar and Shri. S. M. Khot presented and published a paper titled as " Dynamic Vibration Absorber with Non Linear Spring '1 at XIIth National Convention of Mechanical Engineering and National Seminar on Recent Trend in Design Engg., held at Allahabad (Jan. 31 - Feb. 2, 1997).

2. Shri, V. B. Bhalvankar, Shri. S. B. Digewade and Shri. M. Y. Khire presented aiirfoublished a paper titled " Design of Hob for Manufacture of Worm Gear Drive - A CAD Approach " at INCARF-96 held at Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi (17-21 Dec. 1996).

3. Shri. V. B. Bhalvankar, Shri. G. D. Bhide and Shri. M. Y. Khire presented and published a paper titled " A Case Study on Development of CNC Tool Post for Retrofitting on a Center Lathe at 17th AIMTDR Conference held at REC Warangal (9-11 January, 1997).

4. Mr. S. B. Patil, M.E. student and Prof. N. D. Bapat attended the workshop on Industrial problems in Machines and Mechanisms (IPROMM) on 15-16th March 1997 at Walchand College of Engg. Sangli and presented a case study titled " Energy Conservation by Method Improvement “.

D) Lectures Delivered :
Dr, S. G. Joshi delivered a lecture on Personality Development through Teacher - Student interaction at AIC1E-ISTE sponsored one week course on PADS on 21st March 1997, at WCE, Sangli.

E) Testing and Consultancy Work :
1) Prof. M. G. Bhat and Prof. S. P. Chavan carried out the testing and consultancy work for sugar factories in relation to noise and vibrations.
2) Prof. S. P. Chavan has carried out testing of the various pipes for environmental works divisions of Sangli, Kolhapur,
3) Testing of Pumps/Pressure Gauges/Pipes/Valves etc. as and when required by B.I.S. and other concern parties was carried out. Prof. P. G. Ramdasi, Shri. J. G. Kulkarni, Shri. J. G. Gajendragadakar, Prof, S. P. Chavan, Shri. S. B. Jalihal and Shri. Anuse carried out the work.

F) Other Work :
1) Prof. S. G. Kanitkar worked as the Incharge of Diploma Admissions - Pune Region to effect admission to Govt, and Aided Polytechnics from Pune, Satara, Sholapur, Sangli and Kolhapur Districts.
2) Prof. G. D. Bhide and Prof. S. K. Bodhe (Electronics Department) worked as Chief Staff Advisors for student oriented technical activity " VISION 97 “,
3) Dr, S. G. Joshi worked as Co-ordinator for one week course on AICTE - ISTE sponsored course on, " Performance Appraisal and Development System (PADS) March 17-22, 1997 at Walchand College of Engg., Sangli.
