As usual the Mechanical Engineering Department carried out extra curricular activities and testing and consultancy work.

PAPER PUBLISHED/CONFERENCE ATTENDED :
• The technical paper on New technology - It's impact on human resource development ' by Mr. A. B. Kale B.E.(Computer) and Prof. Dr. S. G. Joshi has been accepted for the National Conference on Educational Technology for higher technical education and training at MACT, Bhopal, held in 8-9th March 1991.
* A technical paper titled Numerical, Analysis of Natural Convection Fluid Flow Over Vertical Tapered Fin Arrays ' by Miss. A. N. Tikekar, Shri. H. S. Deshrnukh and Prof. Dr. N. K. Sane, was published in the proceedings of 35th Congress of ISTAM held at Anna University, Madras during 19-22 Dec. 1991.
* A technical paper titled Some Experimental Studies of Cold Fluidized Sand Bed and Combustion of Coal in the Fluidized Sand Bed by Miss. A. N. Tikekar and Prof. Dr.N. K. Sane, was published in the proceedings of National Seminar on Fluidization Technology and Applications, held at Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore local centre of Institution of Engineers (India), during 8-9 Dec. 1990.
* A technical Paper titled 'Pulsating Flow Measurement by Laminar Flow Meter ' by Miss. A. N. Tikekar, Dr. M. B. Sajanikar & Prof. Dr. N. K. Sane was presented at FLUID TECH - 91 organised by WISITEX FOUNDATION at Nehru Centre, Bombay during 12-13 Jan. 1991.
* A technical paper titled 'Automated Manufacturing System - Case Study' by Shri. M. Y. Khire & Shri. N. D. Bapat, was accepted for presentation during All India Seminar on AMS - organised by the Institution of Engineers (India) - U.P. State Centre, Lucknow during 2-3 Feb. 1991.
* A technical paper titled Computerised Manufacturing System - a Case Study by Shri. N. D. Bapat & Shri.. M. Y. Khire, was accepted by International Conference on Design, Automation and CIM jointly organised by - The College of Applied Science and Technology - New York, U.S.A. and PSG College of Technology - Coimbatore during 7-10 Jan.1991.
* A technical paper titled Some Studies of Ball Burnishing Process ' by Shri. A. V. Deshingkar presented in AIMTDR organised at I.I.T. Bombay during 19-21 Dec.1990.

• Shri. S. G. Kanitkar attended a conference on Entrepreunership Development Programme ' organised by National Institute of Motivational & Institutional Development at Sangli.

PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENTS
Shivaji University, Kolhapur has approved the Synopsis of Proposed Ph.D. work submitted by Miss. A. N. Tikekar. She will work under the guidance of Prof. Dr. M. K. Sane.

Shri. S. G. Kanitkar appointed as a member on State Committee of Industry Institute Interaction for World Bank Project implementation Scheme for Polytechnics.
Dr. Haldikar Vidhyan Pratisthan has given 'First Prize' for M.E.(Mech) Dissertation adjudged first in Shivaji University to Shri. M. Y. Khire

SEMINAR/SUMMER/WINTER SCHOOL ATTENDED :
Shri. A. G. Potdar & Shri. R. G. Nene attended appreciation courses in Nuclear Reactor Engineering and Materials for Nuclear Reactor ' respectively at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay, Bombay from 16-30 Dec. 1990.
* Shri. J. G. Gajendragadkar, Shri. G. D. Bhide & Shri. S. G. Kanitkar attended a summer school on Robotics ' at S.J.C.E., Mysore in June 1990 and winter school on Reliability and Optimization Techniques ' in Mechanical Engineering Design in Jan.1991 at Regional College of Engineering Surathkal.
* Shri. N. D. Bapat attended the 6th National Convention of Production Engineers held on 14-15th Nov.1990 together with seminar on 'Recent Developments in Metal Forming' at Institution of Engineers Auditorium at Bombay.
* Shri. N. D. Bapat & Shri. M. Y. Khire visited the Indo-French Exhibition of Teaching Aids and Training Equipments for 2 days held at T.T.T.I., Madras during 25 Feb.- 2nd Mar.1991.

* As usual the department has tested Centrifugal pumps, sluice valves, Pressure gauges, Rickshaw meters, Electric motors for dimensions, Foot valves for various industries as per ISI Specifications.
 
PROMOTIONS/APPOINTMENTS/RETIREMENTS :
• Prof. S. S. Malu took charge of the Department as a Head on 2nd July 1990.
• Dr. S. G. Joshi, was promoted to the post of Professor from 7th July 1990.
* Shri. M. Y. Khire & Miss. A. N. Tikekar were promoted as Lecturer on Degree Side for the Current Academic Year.
* Sarvashri. H. M. Tikekar, A. V. Kamble & N. K. Chhapkhane were selected as Lecturers on Diploma Wing. * Shri. S. G. Kanitkar elected as Chairman, Walchand College of En&ineering Employees Co-operative Credit Society & Stores.
Shri. M. C. Dabir took voluntary Retirement from Nov.1990 after a long service of over 25 years. We wish him happy and long life.

LECTURES DELIVERED
Shri. S. G. Kanitkar delivered a talk on Urja Sankat ' in Rotary club, Sangli. He delivered lectures on `4th Generation of Computers', 'Robotics' on A.I.R. Sangli. He also delivered a talk on Ozone Layer Deplation and C.F.C.'s in the function of ISTE, Sangli Chapter.
