Electrical Dept news 1976-77
A) Electrical Engineering Students Association ( EESA ) The students especially from B E. (Electrical) class came forward with a lot of enthusiasm in starting the activists of Electrical Engineering Students Asso-ciation (EESA). The inaguration was done by Shri S. N. Sukhatirtba, Superintending Engineer (Sangli Circle) M. S. E. B.
The group discussions on topics like " Term - work Assesment " etc. and lectures by the students are some of the features of the activities of EESA. Shri N N. Khandekar and Shri V. R. Pethe from B. E. ( Electrical ) Class are looking after the activities.
The following lectures were arranged under Shrimant Parashram Patwardhan Trust, Jamkhandi and EESA.
1) " Dual axis synchronous machine (Two field windings) -Physical Concepts " by Dr. Y. G. Paithanker, V. R. College of Engineering, Nagpur-
2) " Expanding Frontiers of Electronics " by Dr. N. V. Nerurkar Director of Electronics Comission, Govt. of India
3) " Problems in Thermal Power Station by Prof. M. W. Pathak, V. R. College of Engineering, Nagpur.
B) Summer School in Electronic Control Systems A Summer School in " Electronic Control Systems " was successfully conducted at our College by the Departmerits of Electronics & Electrical Engineering from 7 th June to 26 th June, 1976 under the auspices of the Indian Society for Technical Education, with Principal S. D. Phatak as Co-ordinator and Prof. N. R. Phadnis as Co-Co-Ordinator. Sixteen teachers from various Polytechnics participated in the Summer School and were benefited.
C) Papers Published A paper entitled" Innovations in Tech-nical Education and Examination sys-tem jointly authored by Principal S. D. Phatak and Prof. U Gudaru is accepted for publication in the special issue of " RI TTWESr' Journal of India Society for Technical Education.
D) M. E. (Elec.)Projects Completed
I) " Analytic application of Tsypkin's Method" by Mrs. V. P. Lele, under the guidance of Dr. S. R. Atre.
2) " Optimization of reactive power in a power system " by Shri R. G. Desai under the guidance of Prof. U. Gudaru
3) " Model Study with the use of bundled ground conductors for ground grid of H. V. Switch-yard " by Shri P, S. Kotangale under the guidance of Prof. U. Gudaru.
4) "Pole-zero Analog Computer" by Shri. B. K. Lande under the guidance of Prof. A. L. Thacker.
E) M. E. (Elec.) Projects undertaken
The following M. E. (Electrical) Projects are undertaken under the guidance of Prof. U. Gudaru -
1) "Thyristor Controlled Chopper for induction motor drive" by Shri N. M. Gatfane.
2) "Fast determination of stability regions with Liapunov Criterion for on-line transient power system studies" by Shri D. Lakshman Rao. 3) "Sensitivity analysis and optimization performance of load frequency control" by Shri K. B. Chandak.
4) " Design and sensitivity analysis of optimal regulators for synchronous machines" by Shri D. S. Deshmukh.
5) "A critical study of performance of the SCR controlled D. C. motor with sepa-rate excitation " by Shri M. P. Deval.
6) " A comparative study of load flow solution methods (with a special refere-nce to the Newton - Raphson Techni-que and its improvements) "by Shri K. S. Burli.
The following projects are under prog-ress under the guidance of Dr. M. R. Deodhar :-
1) " Nerve - Conduction - time measure-ment apparatus" by Shri G. G. Tengshe
2) "Temperature distribution in a 3-phase oil•cooled transformer" by Shri. Y. G. Kale.
F) Projects by under graduate students
The following projects are undertaken by B. E. (Elec.) students and are on the way of completion under the guidance of Dr. M. R. Deodhar :-
1) "Linear Induction Motor" by Shri J. B. Singh and others.
2) "Hearing aid" by Miss M. M. Kulkarni
G) Ph.D. Degree work Prof. U. Gudaru has registered for Ph. D. Degree in Shivaji University to work independently on the topic "Transient stability region of multi-machine power systems by the direct method of Liapu-nov ". He has already published two papers abroad and presented another paper at a National Seminar. His work is under completion.
H) Testing
Apart from the testing of 3 - Phase Induction motors to I. S T. specifications, the testing of the instruments, H. V. testing of oil, H. V. transformer bushing tests for tan 8 and testing for determination of specific resistance of transformer oil etc. were carried out on the demands of local industrial undertakings.
I) Educational Tours
An educational long tour to East and North India had been arranged for B.E. ( Electrical ) Students for over 15 days in November / December, 1976. 19 students accompanied by Shri H. P. Inamdar participated in the tour and have visited important places and various industries at Calcutta. Hardwar, Chandigarh, Bhakra Nangal. Simla, Agra, Delhi etc.
The students were fortunate in having interviews with our Hon'ble Prime-Minister Mrs. Indiraji Gandhi and Hon'ble Shri Yashwantraoji Chavan, Minister of External Affairs. The tour was a grand success without exceptions and fully interesting and informative.
A visit to Koyna Hydro-Electric Project was also arranged for B. E. (Electrical) students in August, 1976.
J) Staff News
1) Shti R. G. Desai has been declared to have passed the M. E. (Electrical) Examination in First Class with Disti-nction by Shivaji University.
2) Shri R. R. Marathe attended a Short Term Course under Q. I. P. on " Insulation Problems in H. V. Power Apparatus" conducted at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in May. 1976.
3)Shri H. P Inamdar & Shri Y. R. Atre attended the Summer School in " Electronic Control Systems " under the auspices of I. S. T. E. at our College in June, 1976.
4) Shri S. D. Patil, Lecturer in Electrical Engineering was selected for the post of Associate Professor in Govt. Engineering colleges. He has left our services in October, 1976 to take up the new assignments at College of Engineering. Karad
