Civil Dept News 1996-97

1) General : The routine academic activities kept the students and staff members from Civil Engineering Department busy through out the year 1996-97. The under-graduate and post graduate students have been given projects on live problems and requirements from the field.
Besides the academic activities the extra curricular activities were held by organisations such as CESA and CESC. The staff members from the department have delivered lectures at the course conducted for the candidates appearing at MPSC Engg. Services examination.

1. K. S. Gumaste - Awarded with M.Tech degree in Civil Engineering ( in the area of building technology and construction management) from IIT, Madras.

2.. S. Bapat - O.I.P. short term course on " Computational methods and advances in Geotechnical Engg., " between 24 June - 5 July 1996 at IISc, Bangalore. .
3.K. S. Gumaste - Short-term course organised by AICTE, New Delhi on " Sustainable Transformation of rural areas 14-18 Oct. 1996 at IISc. Bangalore.
4. Shri. S. N. Kulkarni organised Students Technical visit to MIDC, Sangli and Takari Lift Irrigation Scheme.
5. Shri. S. V. Chikurde was one of the faculty member for post graduate Diploma in Computer Science for 'C' Language.
6. Shri. N. N. Kamble has organised site visits for the diploma students of Civil Engineering.
7. Our M.E. (Environmental). students Mr. Vikrant B. virwadekar and Mr. Arun D. Rokade stood First in Paper Presentation Competition held at Chiplun on 9th February, 1997 organised by Engineer's Forum. They have presented paper on " Pesticidal Pollution ".

5) Testing and Consultancy Work :
1. Dr. S. V. Ranade & J. M. Gadgil - Involved in Warnali water distribution system design, Appraisal of project at Kopergaon on Power generation from Biogas and Design of water treatment plant and ESR at Tillarinagar for the MSEB colony.
2. Dr. K. S. Wagh - Testing work and consultancy in the following fields Bearing capacity and stability of slopes and foundations, earth pressure coefficients etc. for the projects from Sangli and nearby Districts.
3. S. S. Bapat - Engaged in soil testing work and consultancy of foundations, slope stability analysis and section designs for number of M.I. tanks in Sangli, Satara and Kolhapur districts,
4. S. V. Ramchandre- Routine testing of road materials.
