As usual, the Civil Engineering Department carried out extra-curricular and curricular activities and also testing/consultancy works, were undertaken and completed successfully.

Paper Published
1) Dr. B. Subba Rao presented a paper at the seminar on Boilers and Pollution Control organised by Rotary Club of Shiro] (MIDC) Kolhapur on 14th and 15th May 1994 at Kolhapur on the topic of "Limiting Inorganic Solids Concentration as standards for crop Irrigation (Ferti-Irrigation) - A Rational Approach
2) Dr. B. Subba Rao presented a paper entitled, ' Wealth from Waste-Fertilizer from Spent-Wash ° at the Bird International Seminar of "Appropriate Waste Management.". Technilogies for Developing Countries " held at Nagpur by IAEM NEERT, IAWQ (London) - between February 25-26, 1995.
3) The paper entitled " Techno-Economic Viability Effluents by Dr. B. Subba Rao was judged as the best paper in the By-Product Section and received the trophy at the joint convention of Sugar Technologists Association of Indian and Deccan Sugar Technologists Association of India held at Pune on 23rd Sept. 1994.
4) Prof. V. D. Salkar and Shri. Mane S.B. presented a paper entitled " An appropriate production technique for precast R.C.C. Door and Window Trames " at the national seminar on Low Cost Housing organised by Institution of Engineers at Nagpur - Oct. 94.

1) Dr. J. S. Karandikar attended a workshop on 'Planning and Management of Technical Education in India held at Jiwaji University, Gwalior on 13th and 14th March 1995.
2) Dr. K. S. Wagh, attended "Indian Geotechnical Conference - 1994 (Developments in Geotech Engg.) held at Regional Engineering College, Warangal Between 26th to 28th December 1994, by Indian Geotechnical Society.
3) Prof. C. R. Munawalli attended a regional Seminar on "Appropriate Technology for Pollyution Control at B.V.B. College of Engg. Hubali, Feb. 1995
Achievements of Persons :
1) Shri. K S. Wagh has been awarded Ph.D. degree by 1.1.T. Bombay in May 1994, for his thesis entitled Finite Element Studies on Mechanics of Geotextile - Reinforced Earth for Shallow Foundations."
2) Shri. K. S. Gumaste selected under QIP Scheme has been deputed for M.Tech. Course at 1.1.T. Madras.

Testing and Consultancy Work : Various testing and consultancy works were undertaken and completed successfully at the Environment Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Survey and Transportation, Hydraulic Laboratories from Civil Engineering Department.

New Equipments Purchased and Laboratory Activities.
Environmental Engg. Laboratory
1. Automatic Absorption Spectrophotometer costing Rs. 7 lakhs from M/s. GBC, Australia was purchased. The equipment is suitable for analysis of all metals including heavy metals which are major pollutants. Mr. G. G. Watve is trained for this instrument operation.
2. Gas Chromatograph costing Rs. 2 Lakhs from M/s. IR Technology, Bombay was purchased for gas and organic chemical analysis. This is useful for pesticides and other trace organic pollutants.
3. Usual analysis of water, waste water, soil and air monitoring was done in addition to research projects of ME students.
Survey Laboratories
1. Under the World Bank Assistance few advanced surgey instruments are being purchased for survey Laboratory.
Shree K. S. Kadam and Shri. S. V. Godbole visited the supplier/Manufacturing Units at Roorkee for assessment of performance of ti<< instruments proposed to be purchased.
2. Usual Repairs and Adjustments of Surveying instruments from Govt./Semi Govt. departments were undertaken at the survey lab.
Lectures Delivered :
1. Dr. B. Subba Rao delivered lecture on 'organic Waste composting' on 10th April 1994, organised by Asian Pacific for Transfer of Technology at New-Delhi,
2. Dr. B. Subba Rao deliveres lecture at Shivaji University on UGC sponspred Refresher course in `Agro-Economics' for the profession of Economics on 15trh and 16th February,

3. Dr. B. Subba Rao delivered the Key-note address on 22nd Feb. 1995 at the Regional Seminar on "Appropriate Technology for Pollution Centred' organised by Department of Civil Engineering of KLE Society's B.V.B. College of Engineering and Technology, Hubli sponsored by AICTE, New Delhi.
4. Dr, B. Subba Rao delivered the key-note address at the Training Programme organised by the Central Pollution Control Board at Baroda on 8th March 1995 'Dairy Industry' for Pollution Control Board offices and Industries.
5. Dr. S. S. Karandikar delivered a lecture on 'PADS' at KIT's college o Engg., Kolhapur on 19th March 1995.
5, Dr. K. S. Wagh delivered two lectures on topic 'Finite Element investigation for Reinforced Applications - ShaloW foundations on reinforced clays' at I.S.T.E. Short term course 'Earth Reinforcewment Using Geotextiles - Concepts and Applications' held at Sardar Partel College of Engineering, Bombay on 11th May, 1994.
Other Activities :
1. Dr. B. Subba Rao has been assigned the work of preparation of a comprehensive River Basin study Report on ULHAS RIVER, by Central Pollution control Board.
2. Prof. V. D. Salkar submitted and presented the proposal for Research and Development Project entitled 'Cost Effectiveness Building Techniques to AICTE, New Delhi. The proposal has been accepted and a grant of Rs.7 Lakhs has been sanctioned for the project.
