1 ) Staff Activities
a) Shri S. S. Santpur submitted his work for Ph. D. to the Shivaji University, Kolhapur, in June 1978.
b) Shri S S. Karandikar submitted his work for Ph. D. to the I. I. T , Bombay, and resumed his duties at the College. c) Shri K. D. Naragunde retired on 31st December 1978 after 30 years of long service in the College.
2) Papers published.
Seminars attended and Lectures delivered :
a) Prof. B. Subbarao delivered a lecture in the Summer School on - Advanced Water and Waste Water Treatment at the Malviya Regional Engineering College, Jaipur.
b.) Prof. M. A. Brahmnalkar delivered a series of lectures on Soil Mechanics Investigations and Bearing Capacity of Soils to M. S. E. B. Study group and to the Members of Engineers and Architects Association, Sangli.
c) Shri S. S. Karandikar participated in the National Seminar on Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering Practices in India ' at the College of Engineering, Guindy, Madras.
d) Shri D. P. Sakhadeo attended a Winter School on -New Materials and Construction Techniques' at the I. 1. Sc , Bangalore.
e) Shri H. Y. Kolawale attended a Winter School on Computer appli-cations in Foundation Design ' held at the College of Engineering, Guindy Madras.
f) Dr. S. V. Ranade and Shri H. Y. Kolawale submitted a paper on - Use of CPM in construction management in the Annual Seminar of Engineers and Architects Association, Sangli.
g) Shri S. V. Ramchandre presented a paper on Fibre reinforced concrete ' in the Annual Seminar of Engineers and Architects Association, Sangli.
h) Shri M. V. Joglekar delivered lectures on CPM-PERT and Cost Benefit Analysis for I. S. T. D.. Nagpur Chapter.
i ) Prof. B Subbarao's name is included for publication in Asia's ' Who is Who.'
3) Research and Consultation activities
a) Dr. Ranade and Dr. Subba Rats have taken up the project of Conversion of existing filter to dual media filter at Ichalkaranji Water Works. This would benefit the Municipality to increase the existing rate of filtration almost three times.
b) Dr. Subba Rao and Dr. S. V. Ranadc designed HAL effluent treatment projecct, costing Rs. 75 Lakhs, in collaboration with the Kirloskar Consultants. Many other minor con-sultation activities are in progress.
c) I. S. T. E. has sanctioned a Summer School in Construction equipment and management' Prof. M. V. Joglekar is the Co.ordinator.
A course in CPM-PERT was arranged at Tillarinagar for the Project Engineers. Prof. Joglekar was the Co-ordinator and the faculty from various departments participated.
e) A course in CPM-PERT was conducted in the College for the benefit of final year students.
f) Routine Soil testing works were carried out for various irrigation projects
g) Soil investigation for giving opinions on bearing capacity of soils were carried out for Government Organi-sations, Sugar Factories and other public bodies by Prof. M. A. Brahmnalkar and Shri H. Y. Kolawale.
h) Shri Kolawale has started work on • Swelling Clays' for his dissertation.
