In an effort to enhance curriculum to global standards, a city-based engineering college has decided to rope in academicians of international repute and industry captains for this academic year.
"Having made conversion to credit-based continuous assessment and grading system, we are now ready to move to the next level. With support of faculty and staff in enhancing academic quality, we are confident of attaining global standards," Walchand College of Engineering (WCE) director Y V Joshi said.
A team led by dean (academics) Dr A P Vaidya, along with all department heads and other professors, has collected feedback on curriculum from various stakeholders. These are regularly discussed by subject groups and also with professors from several top US universities.
The curriculum team is guided by Prof John Lamancusa of Penn State University and Prof Lueny Morell of Hewlett-Packard Laboratories.
The WCE team is benchmarking its new curriculum to meet one of the most stringent sets of requirement set out by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
"It is not just about changing syllabi, we are attempting a new paradigm shift in teaching-learning systems.
Students today have multiple channels of knowledge at their finger tips.
"As a result, the teachers need to take that into account and be innovative while helping them with learning. We have rolled out a year-long programme of empowering faculty and staff with new teaching-learning systems," Vaidya said.
Meanwhile, WEC Chairman of Administrative Council, Ajit Gulabchand, has donated Rs 45 lakh for the upgradation process.
